Match Summary

With both teams hovering in the relegation zone a tense match was in prospect.

Barnsley fielded almost their strongest side. Team captain Tony Farrell was unavailable whilst Gary Hinchcliffe has moved to sunnier climes in Malta for the short term at least and possibly a lot longer.
Nomads B also came 'looking for points' parading one of their best sides of the season.

Two games on boards one and five were the first to be drawn.

These games were followed by two Barnsley A victories on boards four and eight. On board four white forked black with e4 simultaneously hitting a bishop on f5 and a loose a6 knight with his bishop on f1. White maintained his material advantage to win the game. Bottom board saw white outplay his opponent to take the point.

No sooner after taking the lead Nomads B hit back with a win on board two. Black sucessfully defended against whites attack to emerge the exchange up for a pawn which won the game.

Hard fought draws followed on boards three and seven. Both games saw any advantage either side have being whittled away to drawn endings after exchanges.

Board six was the last game to finish. Despite winning the exchange white was unable to find a win in the ending. With the match already won a draw was agreed.

Following this crucial victory Barnsley A have moved to a mid table position. However after this weeks matches only four points separate five teams in this seasons relagation battle. This battle could continue to the last match of the season - our return match with Nomads B!
