The club where your moves matter
The result for first place was never in doubt as Gary led from start to finish conceding only one draw to Andrew. However the race for second place saw five players in contention with two rounds to go. Vlad's failure to score in round six meant four players went into the last round with a chance of second place, Gary by now being uncatchable. A win for Andrew and a draw for Tony Farrell ensured a tie for second place. Although he looked, unsurprisingly, a bit rusty, Pete Micklethwaite made a welcome return. He claimed to be playing his first over the board matches this century and scored a very creditable four points. The competition was fierce with many very tight games. Tony Leon as yet undefeated in the league was delighted when his violent attack on Andrew ended in mate. There were no easy games which makes Gary's result all the more impressive. If you weren't there you missed a good evening!
