The 2nd Barnsley Blitz - Monday 10th May

Unfortunately the Barnsley Blitz was overshadowed by the death of Phil Ford who collapsed at the prize giving. Despite attempts to revive Phil, he died later at Barnsley District General Hospital.

Barnsley Chess Club wishes to send their condolences to his team mates, friends and family at this sad time.

Phil had a good evening at the Barnsley Blitz scoring six wins out of seven. He was part of the victorious silver group winning Nomads C team. According to his team captain Andy George, Phil had played some of the best chess of his life this season.

Phil was regarded as a true gentleman amongst those who came into contact with him.

Warm up match for the new season - Tuesday 22nd September

We invite all members to attend on Tuesday 22nd September to a warm up match for the new season. Members will be split into two teams of equal strength and games will be played under match conditions. Hopefully everyone should play someone of roughly equal grade to themselves.
Note the date has been moved forward one week because of a possible fixture clash.

Tony Pogson won the fifth and final quickplay event held to finish top of the Five Minute Quickplay Grand Prix.
He was closely pursued by Ken Hunter who came second throughout the event.

Sheffield and District Chess Association Annual General Meeting
Wednesday 2nd September at Nomads.

The Association is seeking to fill the posts of General Secretary, Treasurer and Chief of the Executive. A new post of archivist is also proposed.
In a repeat of last year another proposal for a six board first division has been received.
